چکیده
Park, Sang-Hee. 2009. Resolving Multiple fdo.fragments in English: A Syntax-Pragmatics Approach. SNU Working Papers in English Lingnistics and Langnage 8, 16-27. This study attempts to provide a new analysis of multiple wh·fragments, the so-called 'multiple sluicing', in English. Against previous approaches which resort to a reconslruction-based resolution or gapping, the proposed analysis captures multiple wh-fragments without positing a copy-deletion mechanism. In fact, multiple wh-fragments are viewed as a root clause whose interpretation can be determined by previous discourse context. This is achieved by suggesting a new type constraint for multiple wh-fragments, based on the analysis of fragment by Bertomeu and Kordoni (2005). (Seoul National University)

متن کاملCross-linguistic Influence at Syntax-pragmatics Interface: A Case of OPC in Persian
Recent research in the area of Second Language Acquisition has proposed that bilinguals and L2 learners show syntactic indeterminacy when syntactic properties interface with other cognitive domains. Most of the research in this area has focused on the pragmatic use of syntactic properties while the investigation of compliance with a grammatical rule at syntax-related interfaces has not received...
متن کاملIranian Advanced EFL Learners’ Awareness and the Use of Marked Word Order: Discourse-pragmatically Motivated Variations
The present investigation was designed to study the production and comprehension of specific means for information highlighted by advanced Iranian learners of English as a Foreign Language. The study focused on the discourse-pragmatically motivated variations of the basic word order such as inversion, pre-posing, it- and Wh-clefts. After taking the Nelson test, a homogeneous group was settled. ...
متن کاملAn experimental investigation of interrogative syntax / semantics ∗
Current theories of interrogative syntax/semantics adopt two strategies for the interpretation of in-situ wh-phrases: covert movement and in-situ interpretation. The covert movement strategy is traditionally assumed to be all-or-nothing: the in-situ wh-phrase covertly moves to C or else stays in-situ and is interpreted in its base-generated position at LF. In this paper we argue that neither ap...
